Project HAL Print Works - Broxbourne

Client: Newsprinters Limited
Contractor: Carillion Plc.
Architect: RPS Burks Green

Project HAL is one of three new print works built in Britain for Newsprint.  The facility incorporates ten of the newest “state of the art” double sided colour printing presses in Europe.

The majority of the roof slopes are twin skin construction using Corus Panels & Profile sheets in conjunction with an Ashgrid spacer system and rockwool insulation.  A number of the attached roofs are either fully adhered or mechanically fixed Sarna single ply membrane.

Because the Energy Centre roof supports a large number of heavy mechanical units with associated penetrations, a Permaquik inverted liquid applied reinforced bituminous application was selected with pre cast concrete flag and ballasted protection to provide a robust long life finish.

The LinkBridge from the Energy Centre to the main print building has a Kalzip standing seam roof with single skin sheets on the walls.

The main entrance Schuco curtain walling was fabricated in our factory and included a Besam electronic automatic entrance door with specialist door and window safety markings.

A variety of Kingspan RW and MR microrib composite panels in Albatross grey, white and Sargasso blue were laid horizontally and vertically on the various elevations, the majority of which were installed from temporarily protected newly installed roofs.

The external façade also incorporates Colt louvres and smoke vents, Hormann personnel doors, Schuco individual opening windows, and aluminium brise soliel.

A Fullflow siphonic rainwater disposal system and a selection of aluminium access ladders, stairs and landings and a proprietary roof access latchway system completed our comprehensive envelope package.
